high proportion of starches

Such a high proportion of starches was causing the highs, lows and food addiction I had before I cut back drastically.

I don't see how anybody would need to drink something with a high sugar content as part of their basic diet if their health was unremarkable, and -on top of- the fruit juice that is included in the "fruits and vegetables" section? This misinformation is putting the country at risk of a poor health.

Humans evolved during millions of years as hunter-gatherers, without large amounts of carbohydrate.

We ate the food that is available to us in nature by hunting, fishing and more gathering all edible foods we could find.

That did not include pure starch in the form of bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. We have only eaten such food for five to ten thousand years, since the beginning of agriculture.

Just a limited adaptation of our genes can take place in such a relatively short time.

With the industrial revolution, hundred to two hundred  years ago, we got factories that could manufacture large amounts of pure sugar and white flour.

Rapidly digested pure carbohydrates. There has been no time to genetically adapt to that food.

Furthermore,In the 80-s the fear of fat gripped the western world. The low fat products appeared everywhere.

If you eat less fat you need to eat more carbohydrates to feel full.
At this time the worst epidemic of obesity and diabetes in history unfortunately  started.

The most fat phobic country in the world, the United States of America  has been hit the hardest and is now the fattest major country in the world.

Today it is clear that the fear of real food with natural fat contents has been a mistake.

In February 2012

I have tried to get this plate from various sources as a means to help me understand to portion control.

My dietitian has one,my Dr has one,my diabetic nurse has one...It seems the whole world has one...but alas the guy who really needs one.......is still looking.
Oh yes I have asked the people looking after at my health...no joy.. they are a teaching tool.

Why will the ... not hand these things out to those that need them..rather than use them as a five minute teaching tool that people forget within seconds.
.

it is sugars/carbohydrates that contribute to obesity

In my experience it is sugars/carbohydrates that contribute to obesity or fatness of body  and other ailments plaguing all of us here in America.

I do not believe fats makes us fat, but that carbohydrates make us fat or obes.
This has been my experience and it saddens me that we continue to push poor food heath suggestions to Americans.

It makes sense to me why we are the fattest society in known history with all of this bad information being spread to the population.

In my opinion, this plate and the old pyramid are not backed by good and new science and research, but by research skewed by corporate interests - just like so many other things in this country.

With this plate, America will continue to be fat. The corn/wheat/sugar industries will continue to thrive the human.

The pharmaceuticals industry will grow even more powerful.

America doesn't need much carbs and pills.

It needs to wake up break free from these bad (or lobbied) ideas.

no idea at what a 'healthy portion'

This is all very well and good but my problem is i have no idea at what a 'healthy portion' really is.

Is a portion of pasta 5g or 500g?
I may get the ratio of the different kinds foods right but if I'm eating 3 times the amount I should it's not going to make any difference.

I read it as suggesting a balance by weight, rather than a variety including essentials.

O level biology in the early 80s taught me about essential foods - a little protein such as beans and some vitamins.

I learned that the body can turn protein into fat & carbohydrate.

Since then I've learned that roughage helps, preferably as leaves and other fresh little-cooked vegetables  (Then today I tried a search food types followed by "deficiency" and found that carbohydrate deficiency can exist in theory, if someone worked hard enough at avoiding carbohydrates.)

Fantastic the classification of Bean in the "Protein" section and equally clever to store the dry fruits in the section "Fruits and vegetables".

It really shows how much grey matter you put in the job. Know, i'm sure the population is safe.

To eat a good plate of meal

To eat a good plate of meal shows the different types of food we need to eat – and in what proportions – to have a good balanced and healthy food.

It is a good idea to try to get this balance right each day, but you don't need to do it at every meal.

And you might find it easier to get the balance right over a longer period, say a week.
Eating healthily is about about eating the right amount of diet for your energy which your body needs.

In England, most adults are either over weight or obese.

This means many of us are eating more than we need, and should eat and drink fewer calories in order to lose their weight.

Based on the eat good  plate, you should try to eat, Plenty of fruit and vegetables
Did you know that we should be eating at least five portions of a variety of fruit and veg daily.
More on five per day portions of fruit and vegetables,Plenty of potatoes, bread, rice, pasta
and other starchy things.

Choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can add starchy foods, some milk and dairy foods,More on milk and dairy foods some meat, fish, eggs, beans
and other non-dairy sources of protein.

Eat good plate applies to most people – whether they are a healthy weight or overweight, whether they eat meat or are vegetarian, and no matter what their ethnic origin.

Furthermore, it does not apply to children under the age of 2 because they have different nutritional needs.
In the ages of 2 and 5, children should gradually move to eating the same foods as the rest of the family, in the proportions shown on the eat  well plate.

Find out more in Feeding your baby and Weaning and beyond in the Birth to five guide.

Anyone with special dietary requirements or medical needs might want to check with a registered dietitian whether the eat good plate applies to them.

How lucky we are for all these healthy advises  my grand mother never had it and she only lived until she was 88 and could still bend and touch her toes, walk, run , she can do house chores very well and live life to the full.

Perhaps we should look backwards before obesity and diabetes and other diseases plagues to what her generation ate all those things we have banned from as unhealthy mainly.

Goodness knows how humanity existed until commercially backed food science came to our help and our rescue.

Perhaps medical science could focus on actually curing ailments instead of making many millions simply treating the symptoms.

Harmful Effects of Green Tea

Harmful Effects of Green Tea

To date, the only negative side effect reported from drinking or taking  green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine.

However, the green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, there are approximately 30 to 60 mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee.

Green Tea Caffeine Green Tea and Weight Loss Tea Bags of Green Tea Health Tea Is Green Tea Good for Your health.

Is Green Tea Good for Your body?

There are as many answers to this question as there are researchers investigating the natural properties of green tea.

As an example, Herbs for Health magazine cites a Japanese report stating that men who drank 10 cups of green tea per day stayed cancer-free for three years longer than men who drank less than three cups a day (there are approximately 240 - 320 mg of polyphenols in three cups of green tea).

Beside this, a study by Cleveland's Western Reserve University concluded that drinking four or more cups of green tea per day could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis, or reduce signs in individuals already suffering from the disease.

And Japanese scientists at the Saitama Cancer Research Institute discovered that there were fewer recurrances of breast cancer, and the disease spread less quickly, in women with a history of drinking five cups or more of green tea per day.

It gets more confusing. A University of California study on the cancer-preventative qualities of green tea concluded that you could probably attain the desired level of polyphenols by drinking merely two cups per day.

On the other hand, a company selling a green tea capsules formula insists that 10 cups per day are necessary to reap the maximum benefits.

futhermore, how can you make sense of these conflicting claims? Given all the evidence, it is probably safe to plan on drinking four to five cups of green tea per daily.

If you're a real devotee, by all means drink more; but whether or not you'll derive added health benefits remains to be determined by further research.

How to Brew a Cup of Green Tea

Producing the perfect cup of green tea is a quite tricky process.
If not handled properly, those same polyphenols that provide health benefits can ruin the flavor, making the tea tasteless and grassy.

It's particularly important not to overbrew green tea.

While it's best to follow the manufacturer's instructions for each variety of green tea, here are some general instructions.

Use one tea bag, or two - four grams of tea, each cup of tea.
Fill a kettle with cold drinking water and bring to a boil.

After unplugging the kettle, allow it to stand for up to three minutes.

Pour the heated water over the tea bag or tea, and allow it to steep for up to three minutes.

If using a tea bag, remove the bag.
Allow the tea to cool for three more minutes.

1 or 2  teaspoons, depending on the variety of green tea you are brewing.
